The Leaning Tower of Pisa

The town Pisa is known for one thing and one thing only…yes you guessed it: The Leaning Tower of Pisa.

The Tower is actually a free standing bell tower that forms part of the cathedral in the city Pisa. Of course it was not the intention of the architects for the tower to lean, but hey, it put the town on the map and Bob’s your bisexual auntie.

The tower was (poorly) constructed in 1173. The foundation is a shocking 3meters and set in unstable soil. It is 55.86 meters tall on the lower side and 56.7 meters tall on the higher side. It took about 177 years to complete the construction.

Apparently the Italian Government is going to put a clock on the Leaning Tower of Pisa. They figure what good is the inclination, if you don't have the time. Ok bad joke, moving on…
