Paris - Notre Dame & The Latin Quarter

The Notre Dame, which translates as “Our Lady” is seen as the centre of Paris, both geographically and spiritually. Even though it attracts thousands of pilgrims on a religious quest, many people are drawn to it purely as a result of the Victor Hugo novel “the Hunchback of Notre Dame”.

Although the construction of this beautiful cathedral started in 1163 it was only completed in 1345. This cathedral is a fine example of French Gothic architecture and lures more visitors yearly than the Eiffel Tower. If you have only one day to spend in Paris, this is definitely a must.

Latin Quarter
Situated close to Sorbonne University, the Latin Quarter is your ticket to a good, cheap meal. Here you can have a starter, main and desert for as little as €10 and still squeeze a free drink out of your host. The name “Latin Quarter” derives from the middle ages when Latin was the international language of learning.
